Biography

Ms. Behar focuses her practice on marital and family law matters and complex commercial litigation. She was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. and obtained her undergraduate degree in history from Georgetown University. She continued her education in D.C. at The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where she earned her juris doctorate and a Certificate in Communication Law Studies. Ultimately, she returned to her alma mater and attended Georgetown University Law School where she obtained her LL.M. in Taxation with a Certificate in State and Local Taxation. Notably, Ms. Behar published two articles while attending law school and obtaining her advanced law degree in peer-reviewed professional law journals.

After graduating law school, Ms. Behar moved to Florida and began her career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit where she tried many misdemeanor and felony cases to verdict. After having children, she decided to shift the focus of her career to civil litigation and she joined an established Sarasota law firm that specialized in corporate tax, real estate transactions and estate planning. During this time Ms. Behar successfully represented corporations and individuals in commercial disputes and litigation involving real estate transactions, business dissolutions, shareholder claims, land use and riparian rights. Her LL.M. in taxation was particularly useful in this practice since these areas of law often involve sophisticated financial components including business valuation, lost profits and extensive damages analysis.

Ms. Behar has always endeavored to be actively engaged in her local community through professional and volunteer organizations. Through the connections she made in these organizations, Ms. Behar recognized an opportunity to apply her skills and experience in civil litigation, finance and tax to marital and family law matters. In addition to representing commercial clients, she now specializes in family law matters involving complex financial issues impacting equitable distribution, valuation of businesses and related interests, alimony, child support and related parental issues, as well as preparing and enforcing prenuptial and postnuptial agreements.

During law school, Ms. Behar was a member of the CommLaw Conspectus: Journal of Communications Law and Policy and Moot Court. She was also appointed by faculty to coordinate the Communications Law Symposium, a prestigious annual seminar the law school hosted for attorneys practicing in the communication law field.
